OTHER NATURE (Tritiya Prakriti)

Other Nature, or Tritiya Prakriti, a Sanskrit term coined in religious texts to classify gender variance, is also known in its literal translation as “the third sex.” Gender variance, the outstanding passage of same-sex marriage and equal rights will be explored in this historical documentary with a focus on the social and political factors that contributed to the 2007 Supreme Court ruling that protects the rights of sexual minorities and the 2008 passing of gay marriage in Nepal. At the heart of this human rights survey is a thought-provoking cinematic journey merging the political with the personal, grassroots activities with individual self-determination, and traditional social structures with humanism.
